Flash is what is known as an Integrated Development Environment (or IDE); in other words, it a piece of software that you add to your page which brings it added functionality in a seamless way.

It’s a whole new world of web design; Flash ActionScript, communication server, rich internet apps, streaming audio and video, games, animation, banners, TV ads, user interface enhancement… sounds complicated, huh? Well, it can be.

In essence, Flash can run your entire website, or it can be a small piece of side code adding a touch of elegance, functionality or usability to what’s already there.

For example, you could use Flash to create a large header image that scrolls shots of your product, or you can use it to show video, or play audio, or run a game. It can be used as a means of running an online tutorial, or a website demo for potential customers. It can be a massive front page plash of wild animation and music, or it can be a tiny, subtle glint of light shining on the outside edge of your company logo.
